From the moment a girl starts to play, imitating life with dolls and playing ‘grown ups’ seem to be the main themes. I always remember playing as if I were a mum and feeding and bathing my dolls and having tea parties. Looking back, the maternal instincts seemed to naturally kick in, even back then. I also vividly remember pretending to have a job, working in an office, and talking to people on the phone. Of course, I was always the boss, and my younger sister and my dolls were my employees. I think being an older sister made me instinctively want to act more grown up and responsible.
For every kid it’s the same…. All they want to do is grow up. Once adulthood arrives however, we begin to wish we could turn back the clock, to a time when acting like an adult was fun and carried no responsibility, because the reality of life as a grown-up, is not as fun as we remember it being when we were 5!
Being an adult comes with all sorts of challenges, that vary from one person to the next, and as women, the struggles of other women can more easily resonate with us, as chances are we have been there, are there, or are going to be there real soon!
This is part of the joy of being a woman. Knowing that what we are going through, we are not alone. There will always be someone who has been through, what we’re going through, so we find strength in a community of likeminded women that will help to lift each other up and support one another.
Women are naturally good at caring for others and at multi-tasking; managing to keep a household running, working fulltime, raising kids and occasionally grabbing 5 minutes to participate in a hobby that is our choosing. It doesn’t matter what life throws at us, we always seem to cope with it, facing it full on and come out feeling stronger and more empowered.
It is because of the unique challenges that women face, that SYMPLIQ was born. As former paramedics and single mothers living in Sydney, Lucy and I have seen our fair share of life’s trials and tribulations. We have each been on our own journeys, dealing with all the obstacles that have been in our path, and to date, we have survived 100% of them!
We have also reached that time of life every woman can’t wait to arrive……. Menopause! I am of an age now where Perimenopause is not only knocking at my door but has started to cross the threshold. While Lucy is in full blown menopause, but only because it has been medically induced due to her having breast cancer a few years ago. This has meant that she has been unable to take HRT and so has had to find natural remedies to manage the symptoms.
All our life experiences have culminated to create SYMPLIQ. A space where women can come to get practical advice, emotional support and tools for self-improvement, to help them feel supported and empowered and live fulfilling, balanced lives.
We have big plans for the future, from workshops and life coaching, to retreats. Our aim is to create a holistic approach to wellbeing, that addresses the mind, body and spirit.
